Path Of Exile 3.9 Metamorph League Guide

With the launch of Path of Exile 3.9 and its related content, there's a lot set to change in the lands of Wraeclast, such as it's debuted a temporary challenge league called Metamorph. This league allows players to use organs from slain monsters to create terrifying bosses that provide awesome rewards. Regardless of whether you are a novice or a veteran, I am afraid it will be difficult to enjoy the newly introduced mechanism for some time. Here is a Path Of Exile 3.9 Metamorph League Guide to help you survive the Metamorph League and get better gaming experience.

The Basics

As with any new League, a brand new NPC has been added to the game that will be encountered in every instance — Tane Octavius is Metamorph's addition — and providing new missions for the player to undertake.

The core idea in MetaMorph is to collect Samples from each monster, in a Metamorph encounter. Be on the lookout for mobs with a green hue, these denote Metamorph mobs that drop a Sample when killed. Samples can then be taken to Tane and turned into a Metamorph boss.

Creating Metamorphs

Selected monsters in each instance will drop samples that Tane Octavius will collect from you. These offerings can be used to create a metamorphic boss that the player can engage in. Crucially, this is not the same as creating a metamorph from boss samples.

These foes can possess a variety of different affixes. Increased life, damage, and similar affixes will dictate the corresponding quantity and rarity increase of the metamorph. You will need five different types of samples in order to construct a metamorph:

    Brain
    Eyes
    Heart
    Lungs
    Liver

You will want to start small with your Metamorphs early on. For the best experience per hour, it is usually recommended to simply ignore the league mechanic until the end-game (mapping level), though this is a personal choice.

There is also a Laboratory zone that can be entered from your Waypoint, similar to the mine or the menagerie. It is here that the much rarer boss sample drops can be combined to form powerful boss metamorphs with the best rewards.

→ Sample Tips:

1. Samples MUST be used in the zone they are encountered to create a MetaMorph boss. Unused Samples disappear when zoning.

2. Unique Organs will persist. You can take these to Tane's lab to fight entirely Unique bosses.

3. Samples should normally only be collected until you have one of each organ, the Tane button in the bottom right will light up at this point.

4. You can hold off on the above tips if you're hunting Uniques, usually map bosses, as their Unique organs have extra mods.

5. Sample mobs will not spawn in sub-zones, for example, the Flooded Depths contains no MetaMorph mechanics.

6. Magic and Rare mobs can drop Samples with additional modifiers.

7. Unique monsters have their own unique Samples and modifier pools.

8. Samples from Unique monsters have a hidden increased rarity of PoE items dropped modifier.

New Currency: Catalysts

Alongside the Metamorph league comes a new type of tradeable currency: the Catalysts. For starters, Catalysts add quality to Jewelry items that enhance a predetermined set of modifiers. Each Catalyst type will correspond to a unique type of affix on a Jewelry item. Think of them like a much more specific Fossil.

Catalysts are unique, so you will only be able to enhance the effects of each piece of jewelry with one type of Catalyst each. It is best to focus on one set of stats rather than spreading your choices. There are several known types:

    Turbulent Catalyst — Elemental Damage
    Intrinsic Catalyst — Primary Attributes
    Imbued Catalyst — Caster Mods
    Fertile Catalyst — Life, Mana
    Prismatic Catalyst — Elemental Resistances
    Tempering Catalyst — Physical Affixes

Just like all other Path of Exile currency, Catalysts are tradeable and can be bought and sold as you see fit.

The Tips To Survive Metamorph League

Here are a series of tips to help you survive in the Metamorph league.

• Get Chaos Resistance

One of the first things you'll notice when you fight Metamorphs is how deadly they are. Some will instantly kill you while others aren't nearly as scary. This is likely because you do not have high Chaos Resistance.

• Co-op

Playing with friends can potentially help make content easier. As long as you and your friends have builds that can handle themselves, you might have an easier time killing bosses. If you want the most loot out of every map, party play is the way to go.

• Craft Gear

You might not be able to find items you need while playing Path of Exile, but thankfully you can craft modifiers onto items you are wearing, potentially fixing any problems your build is having. This goes for the endgame as well, with master mods allowing players to craft some extremely powerful items, rivaling Ascendency passives!

• Use Your Flasks

Do not underestimate how powerful your flasks are in the Path of Exile. Life flasks provide lots of regeneration quickly, but utility flasks can provide plenty of defensives for your character.

• Get Defensive Passives

The passive tree is the first thing many players will see when they start the game. Despite how large it is, pathing around it is rather simple. All you need to do is grab bonuses that would benefit your character. In general, the more life you grab from the tree, the stronger the life granted from your gear will be—increasing your overall health pool substantially.

• Use Minions

Blight league introduced plenty of buffs to summoner characters, overhauling Ascendancies like the Guardian and Necromancer. Also, plenty of minion gems got buffs as well. If you need a good starting build this league, consider a Necromancer summoner.

• Awakening Level

One new addition is the inclusion of Awakening Levels on your Atlas. This is a global difficulty modifier that increases the effect of all bonuses on Maps, both good and bad. Also, enemy health is increased and the damage they deal is amplified. If you are having a hard time killing high-level enemies in the endgame, you might want to lower your Awakening Level. This can be reduced by reducing the amount of fully socketed regions you have on your Atlas.

• Trade

Trade. Seriously, sell items and buy things you need. If you need currency, flip items on the market by buy PoE items for cheap and selling them for more than you bought them for. If you can't get a specific Unique to drop for your build, buy it. Sell any good gear you don't need to make currency and use it to craft amazing items for your builds.

• Check Your Organs

Metamorphs are created off of eyes, brain, heart, liver, and lungs that you scavenge off of mobs you kill. These organs all come with unique modifiers on their rewards and the boss itself. In other words, check every organ before creating a boss.  Fight a hard enough Metamorph and you get an organ as an actual item, capable of creating a boss in Tane's Laboratory if you get each organ type.

• Check Build Guides

Speaking of builds, plenty of build guides exist on the Path of Exile forums and the subreddit.
