How Does Wild Rift Compare to the League of Legend?
League of Legends: Wild Rift isn't a direct port of League of Legends for the PC, but a game built from the ground up to re-imagine what League would look like if it was not on the PC. However, just how does Wild Rift compare to the League of Legends? Here are the major differences between the two.
1. Champion Changes
1). There are fewer champions in Wild Rift (61) than League of Legends (155 when Gwen is released). Riot has promised to add more champions, at a rate of about two per month, but it's possible that not every League champion will end up on the Wild Rift.
2). No champion in Wild Rift will have a passive ability, so abilities like Vayne's Silver Bolts and Vi's Denting Blows won't be in Wild Rift.
3). Some champions will have their existing abilities re-tooled to better work with the new controls.
2. Map is Smaller
The Map in Wild Rift is a direct mockup of the map in League of Legends but it is smaller. Where in League of Legends you had about 10s to travel to your lane, it is much shorter in Wild Rift. This means combats that involve many players will occur more frequently, the team with a better landing phase has a higher chance to win the combat.
3. Ranked Matches Rely Mostly On Marks, Victory Points
Compared to League, Wild Rift has a more liberal approach with regards to its Ranked Mode. In Wild Rift, players only have Ranked "marks" from Iron to Emerald. Interestingly, the Emerald rank is the new transition rank between Platinum and Diamond.
In Wild Rift, players need wins to earn marks that move them up ranks, as losses remove marks as well. Meanwhile, Wild Rift introduces Victory Points, the mobile equivalent to LP, from Diamond upwards.
4. Skin Quality
The Wild Rift team has definitely dedicated a huge amount of time to come up with special animations and VFX such as a short presentation video, changing the viewpoint of the skin, 2D render, 3D renders and what not. They have put in time for every single skin and have special animations for each one of them. Something League of Legends players really wanted which was special animations for skins when you lock in have now been introduced in Wild Rift.
5. No Item Actives
Wild Rift removes the option of having separate items with active skills. Instead, these active skills get assigned to "enchants" for Boots, where each Champion can get only one upgrade per match.
6. Aggressive Nexus
In Wild Rift, turrets will no longer have plates to ensure they can get eliminated much faster. They made this by making the entire game map much smaller and removing turrets that guarded the Nexus. The Nexus now has the ability to protect itself with its own turret shots.
7. Dragon Changes
Ocean Soul is different in Wild Rift from the base game. Instead of flat healing and mana regen, the dragon now grants physical and magic damage vamp (healing whenever you do damage).
Also, because the games are so much quicker, the Elder Dragon's execute effect is now wrapped into Dragon Soul. It should be extremely rare for teams to hit the point where they're stacking four or five dragons.
8. No Inhibitor
One more change that makes Wild Rift so fast-paced is the fact that there are no minion inhibitors. Inhibitors are what spawn an enemy's super minions when it is destroyed and in its cooldown, these things affect the idea of a fact pace MOBA that Riot is applying for League of Legends: Wild Rift.
9. Enemy Lock
Because it is going to be so difficult to micro-manage the champion's auto attacks, Riot has instituted a new mechanic where an enemy champion you attack becomes "locked" onto. This means that you can combo multiple attacks and abilities with less chance of accidentally clicking on the wrong enemy.
10. Minions Will Give More Gold
Because Riot Games wanted Wild Rift to be a fast-paced game, all Minions give a lot more gold than in League of Legends. This increases the speed at which you gain gold and makes the game that much faster.
11. Positional Preference
When you queue up for a game, you won't be asked to choose two positions, a primary and secondary, that the system will try and put you in before resorting to the dreaded autofill. Instead, you'll be able to rank all of the positions, one through five, and the system will try to find you a spot in your preferred roles before moving on to the less-desired roles. You'll get your favorite positions more often in Wild Rift and you'll be far less likely to get your least favorite.
12. New Runes
As they wanted the game to stand out and have a different feeling, Riot Games added new runes to Wild Rift.
13. Summoner Spell Change
While League of Legends has the ability to choose 2 summoner spells, Wild Rift will only have the ability to choose one summoner spell.
14. Buttons! Lots of them
Wild Rift has lots of buttons to carry out different stacks. There are 11 buttons close to each other, their buttons have many functions like auto-attacking, 4 skill slots, warding, 2 summoner spells, shop, and not to mention item activation.
